The first post in this devotional series covering the book of Philippians is Those Boring Openings.
“For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13)
I seem to be spending an awful lot of time on just two verses, but they are packed with meat & potatoes! Here we find that God will do His work in (through) us, for His good pleasure. “His good pleasure”? It’s only three words! It’s worse than that: in Greek it’s only one word (eudokia)!
It means choice, delight, pleasure, and/or satisfaction. It’s a decision God has made … to have us perform good works in His name and for His purposes.
THIS is why we do good works! Because we are part of God’s team, and He has chosen us to do them. The God of the universe chose us to do His will.
Folks, it doesn’t get any better than this!
