ONE Son of Man … Noah

After the (literally) earth-shattering judgement God just pronounced, we find that there is one man who found favor in God’s eyes: Noah.

There’s another toledot in Genesis 6:9. This indicates that the first eight verses of chapter six were probably on previous tablet or scroll, and the rest of chapters six through nine are Noah’s story.

The story begins by naming the three sons of Noah. Genesis 9:28 ends Noah’s tale, but unlike the other men in the Genealogy of Genesis 5, Noah’s entry does NOT say that he “had other sons and daughters”. So, we know from this, and Genesis 7:6-7 and 7:13, that there were eight people on the ark: Noah, his wife, his sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and the three wives of these three sons.

And, again we hear that humanity was corrupt (Genesis 6:11-13). But, verse thirteen also hints at a future for mankind: “Then God said to Noah, ‘The end of all flesh has come before me.'” God wouldn’t bother telling Noah without a reason.

And, that reason is that Noah was to build a boat.
