The first post in this devotional series covering the book of Philippians is Those Boring Openings.
And may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; (Philippians 3:9-10)
I titled this post Life for two reasons. First, Paul is presenting the full-court-press of the Gospel: Jesus is life! He gives us righteousness through faith (which He also gives us), and this leads to life.
But more important is that Philippians 3:10 is what I call my “life verse”. This is what I have tried to strive for since not long after I became a Christian: that I may know Him. For, knowing God IS life! And, it’s Paul’s life, too.
He wanted to know Christ, and know His power, and yes, even know sufferings and death in Christ.
Folks, there is no greater thing in this life than to know God. Jesus paid a huge price so that we could. It is something we should embrace at all times, even more so than life itself.
