The first post in this devotional series covering the book of Philippians is Devoted to Philippians.
The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:9)
Previously I explained the list of good qualities that we should dwell on. Honorable stuff. Pure stuff. Etc. Thoughts, actions, and people that are Christlike.
But now Paul says to imitate these things that they saw in him!
This is a scary thought. Many there are of whom we could say, “do what they say, not what they do”. But who among us is of such high standards that we can be safely imitated by other believers? None of us are perfect, correct?
That’s true, but Paul says to imitate himself anyway.
We should live our lives in a way where we would be comfortable telling a new believer: “Watch how I act and think. Imitate that.”
Scary thought indeed. But, a laudable goal. In fact, becoming Christlike (as Paul did) is one of the eight things listed in verse eight!
We should live this out every day!
