Epaphroditus, Philippi’s Minister to Paul

The first post in this devotional series covering the book of Philippians is Devoted to Philippians.

Because he was longing for you all and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick. (Philippians 2:26)

So, the Philippian church sent Epaphroditus to Paul with a gift and to minister to Paul’s needs. But now Paul is sending him back to Philippi, as HIS minister to that church! Why the turnaround?

We’ll find out in the verses to come that Epaphroditus was sick and almost died. So, by sending him back, Paul is ministering to the church, and also to Epaphroditus’s family and friends. Jesus said “The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” (Luke 9:58) But, Paul didn’t want to impose upon the Philippian church any more than necessary.

Paul never thought about himself first. This is a memorable example of this humility in action. We would be wise to always think of others first as he did!
