God’s Supply for Our Needs

A Fragrant Aroma

The first post in this devotional series covering the book of Philippians is Devoted to Philippians.

But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, …. And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:18-19)

I included part of verse eighteen in this post because people occasionally take verse nineteen out of context. Taken by itself, it is a promise from God to always supply all our needs. But, it really shouldn’t be taken as a promise without the condition which precedes it: the Philippians’ generosity.

So, the message is that if we want God to supply our needs, it starts by us giving to His “needs”1.

Give generously, and we will lack nothing we need.

The next post in this series is:

Glory to God!

  1. More could be said on the definition of our needs, but that’s a subject that requires a much broaders examination than just two verses.
