Hold Fast the Word of Life

Lights in a Crooked World

The first post in this devotional series covering the book of Philippians is Devoted to Philippians.

Appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.
(Philippians 2:15-16)

“Hold fast” is a single word in Green (epexo), meaning to give attention to something.

“The word of life” is two words (logos and zoe). Logos simply means word or words, and zoe means real and genuine life or our souls. Together they mean Scripture, but Paul is calling Scripture the words that give life to our souls.

So, we’re to give attention to the Scriptures because they give life to our very souls. Keep returning to and staying the Word of God!
