The first post in this devotional series covering the book of Philippians is Devoted to Philippians.
For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things. (Philippians 3:18-19)
On a more somber note, Paul points out that there are some who once checked out this Christianity1, but who were now walking the world’s way, not Christ’s.
These people, whoever they were, we now enemies of Christ. A nasty fate awaits them. Today, we would say they “fell away”. Their minds are focused on earthly things, things of the world.
I pray that I never go down that path again. Before I met Christ personally and experienced His grace and forgiveness, I wasn’t a nice person. I hurt a lot of people. And it took a long time for God to weed that stuff out of me. For that, I am VERY thankful.
Always remember the infinite depth Christ pulled us from, and live our lives in gratitude to that. Do not follow those who did not follow Paul’s Pattern.

- Paul wouldn’t have called it Christianity because the word hadn’t been invented yet, even in Greek. The derisive term “Christian” was starting to be used, but the religion itself was still mostly called “The Way”. I use the term Christianity because I think it will be the most familiar to my readers.
