The first post in this devotional series covering the book of Philippians is Devoted to Philippians.
In order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:11-12)
Paul knows that his highest goal is to be resurrected to join Christ in Jesus’s eternal home. We can know that we’re headed that direction, but even Paul didn’t ACT like he was already assured a place. Our life here on Earth should reflect a desire to get to Heaven.
So Paul presses on toward that goal. He lives as though it is not assured, but knows in his heart (because he knows GOD) that he will spend eternity with Him.
We should not allow ourselves to live our lives as if working towards Heaven was assured. But, we can still know that we’re headed there anyhow. It seems to be a paradox, but that’s our faith for you: God works differently than you or I do.
So PRESS ON towards that goal!
