The first post in this devotional series covering the book of Philippians is Devoted to Philippians.
You too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me. (Philippians 2:18)
So Paul, not sure if he is going to live or die, asks them to rejoice along with him. And, to let him know about it!
How are they supposed to let him know, from half a continent away? Well, they probably would send a letter. But, that would take months, because the only way to send a letter is to have someone walk there with it.
So, clearly, Paul is simply asking them to rejoice, and trying to set the tone for their lives. They were a very poor church, yet they gave even out of their poverty. So, rejoicing that Paul might be killed? Paul wants them to. He really does.
We should rejoice always, even when circumstances indicate otherwise.
