The first post in this devotional series covering the book of Philippians is Devoted to Philippians.
So that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain. (Philippians 2:16)
Previously, Paul asked the Philippians to hold fast to God’s word. Here he gives them a reason: so that he won’t have worked so hard with them for nothing.
This seems to be somewhat selfish, but from what we know about Paul, that’s not the case. No, the other reading is more likely: he wants them to live uprightly, so he tugs at their heartstrings a bit. He knows they love him, so doing this is an act of love.
What would you do to help preserve a spiritual mentor’s eternity?
