The first post in this devotional series covering the book of Philippians is Devoted to Philippians.
You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first preaching of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone; for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs. (Philippians 4:15-16)
Previously we learned that the Philippian church was generous. Here in this verse, Paul notes that they sent him (at least) two gifts while he was in Thessalonica.
Now, that doesn’t seem like much, since Philippi and Thessalonica weren’t too far apart (about 100 miles). But, according to the account in Acts 17:1-10, Paul was only there less than three weeks! So, at 100 miles, making 20 miles a day, it takes 5 days to get there. And, they sent TWO gives in three weeks. From a church that was in poverty!
Generosity doesn’t begin to describe it. May our giving match theirs!
