Write … Again?

Deficient Service?

The first post in this devotional series covering the book of Philippians is Devoted to Philippians.

Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things again is no trouble to me, and it is a safeguard for you. (Philippians 3:1)

Wait! What’s that? “To write the same things again…?” Where’s the “again”? We only have one letter to the Philippians.

While there is only one letter to the Philippians in our Bible, there clearly were more than one originally. The other one or ones have not been preserved. God preserved the one we have for all time (Isaiah 40:8 says “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”)

We don’t know what was in the other letter(s). But, we do know that THIS one contains some information necessary to build up the Church. That’s why it has been placed into our Bible.

Also, Paul says that he already wrote some of the things he is saying in this letter. But, apparently they wanted clarification or something more from him about the teaching.

In any case, THIS Philippians is ours. And, it’s one of the most joyous books in the whole Bible. I’m glad we have it. 🙂
